about Greg Foster

Greg Foster attended the art school at the University of Georgia, and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1983. He has been a full time photographer since 1985, beginning his career working for daily newspapers. He soon moved on to magazine work, specializing in portraits and feature stories, and began working on assignment for clients such as Sports Illustrated, Fortune Magazine, Golf Digest, Time Magazine, and a host of other magazines, as well as for large metropolitan newspapers such as The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times.
His work has been published the world over, and he has worked on assignment in every corner of the United States, as well as in a variety of foreign countries. He has to his credit several hundred covers and front page photos published in some of the world’s top publications. His work has also appeared in a variety of books, including The NBA at 50, America 24/7, A Day in the Life of The National Hockey League, and the NBA’s Best Shots, as well in television documentaries by ESPN, Fox Sports, NFL Films, and CBS.
In addition to his magazine portrait and feature story work, Greg has also worked on assignment for wire services and newspapers covering events such as the Super Bowl, The Masters, the NBA Playoffs, Major League Baseball’s All-Star game, and The World Series. He has also done corporate and advertising photography for companies such as The NBA, Norfolk-Southern Railroads, Suntrust, The Coca-Cola Company, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Kodak, and HBO.
In 2004, one of Greg’s Sports Illustrated cover photos was included in the magazine’s 50th Anniversary issue showcasing the magazine’s greatest photography. Some of his other honors have included awards in the international Pictures of the Year competition and the international Wedding Photojournalists Association competition, inclusion in the Communication Arts Photography Annual, a variety of awards at the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, and being named Georgia Photographer of the Year.
Greg began photographing weddings early on in his career. One of his earliest assignments from Sports Illustrated was to photograph the wedding of an NBA superstar, resulting in his first full page photo in the magazine. From the beginning he worked to combine his documentary and fine art style of magazine work to his wedding work, and he continues that approach today. A background of training in fine arts, a refined sense of design, and photojournalistic instincts honed by over 2 decades as a working photographer for some of the most prestigous publications in the world combine to create his unique approach to wedding photography.
